Art Director  Art Director for Plastics Technology magazine, a monthly award-winning trade publication covering the manufacture and distribution of plastics for a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include design and production of all electronic editorial pages.  Meet with editorial staff to discuss and produce covers and story ideas.  Hire illustrators and photographers on a monthly basis.  Work with Marketing and Sales departments to design and produce special sales pieces, show issues, house ads, and ads for clients.  In control of Art Budget.

Art Director • Responsibilities include the design and execution of seven magazines covering vertical trade markets in the Food/Hospitality, Government, Military, and Fitness fields. Along with supervising a staff of  artists and freelancers, I design and produce all editorial, promotional, and special advertising supplements for all magazines.  I am accountable for the Art Departments budget.  Designed and supervised company website.

PTN PUBLISHING COMPANY, 445 Broad Hollow Road, Melville, N.Y.  11747

Executive Art Director • Responsible to the Publishers and Editors for the layout and design of fourteen magazines, both consumer and trade titles.  Supervised a staff of seven Art Directors, and worked with photographers and illustrators.  Oversaw promotional designs for all corporate divisions, which included magazines, tabloids, company-sponsored conventions and peripheral materials such as posters, ads, and program guides.  Managed the transition of all magazines that were produced in a conventional manner to being desktop published.  Had creative authority to change and re-design publications in keeping with the current trends.  Responsible for Art Department budget and press approval.

FIREHOUSE COMMUNICATIONS, 33 Irving Place, N.Y., N.Y.  10016

Creative Art Director • Firehouse Magazine, Chief Fire Executive magazine. Responsible for the art direction of both fire magazines that are the largest in the fire service industry.  This magazine was founded by Author Dennis Smith.   Also oversaw all the promotional materials for Firehouse Expo, which is the largest convention in the industry.  Managed/Directed the transition of both magazines to desktop publishing. Supervised a staff of four.  Hired and worked with the best photographers in the setup of special editorial wells.  Oversaw the production of both books and went on monthly press runs.  The company was purchased by PTN Publishing in 1989.

BILL COMMUNICATIONS, 633 3rd Avenue, N.Y., N.Y.  10017

Art Director • Restaurant Business.  Responsible to the publisher for layout and design of all editorial and feature pages of Restaurant Business magazine, an 18-times yearly publication geared to the restaurant industry.  Supervised a staff of three artists and an in-house food photographer. Created and executed all covers, reviewed portfolios, hired and worked with illustrators and mechanical artists.  Worked with studio photographer in designing food shoots for editorial pages and special advertorials.  Reviewed and corrected all four-color and B/W photography.  Supervised all stages of advertorials from client contact through design and mechanicals to press runs.  Responsible for department budget.  Promoted in April 1985 to Art Director from Associate Art Director. 

Restaurant Hotel and Design magazine • Free-lance Art Director. Responsible for the design and execution of all pages of this architectural magazine. 

ID Magazine •  Oversaw the art direction of this bi-monthly trade food magazine.  Was responsible for all design and promotional materials that went into the book.

 

Freelance

• Designed and produced a variety of newsletters for several nationwide firehouses.

• Designed & oversaw all production of East Coast Firefighter Magazine.  A Virginia based magazine.

• Award winning annual reports; promotional materials;  and collateral materials for LCG Communications.

• Portrait Artist-B/W & Color pencil.  Also Hand Painted House Portraits on Slate.

Taught students the basic fundamentals of drawing and painting in this 10 week program.

Basic  Drawing  and sketching teacher.  Teach students ranging in ages from 8-12 fundamentals of drawing.
